Physical exercise VS Brain exercise

Many people like to workout, and stay fit. They want to feel young as long as possible and be as healthy as possible for a fruitful life. While keeping your body young is important, keeping your brain “young” is just as much so.Many people who stop challenging their thinking and problem solving skills become unhappy. Instead of working with their brain, they tend to feel like their brain is more of a crutch. Because of this, many people can develop mental health problems, and may turn to self harm, drug use, and sometimes suicide.

When it comes down to it, it is not the challenging your brain that is difficult, but the difficult part is knowing what to challenge your brain with. The content, and how you are challenging your brain can make all the difference. This is another way education is important. School gives you the content to work on , so you don’t have to figure it out yourself.  Like any physical exercise, at first it is not meant to be easy or fun. The more you force yourself to do something you do not like, the stronger you become. Without it, many people would not know how to challenge their brain and how to make it think differently for different situations.

Now of course people stimulate their brains with crosswords, and jigsaw puzzles, which are all great, but schooling is superior. It really pushes your thinking out of its comfort zone in a way that develops your thinking into an adult mindset that you can apply in any field. Physical exercises have also been linked to having better grades. “the findings still showed that exercise made a sizable difference in a student’s G.P.A. On a 4.0 grade scale, students who exercised vigorously seven days a week had G.P.A.’s that were, on average, 0.4 points higher than those who didn’t exercise.” (Wellblogs)

Teachers know that all the learning is done outside the classroom, and that their job as educators is to to give their students a what and a how, the content and the exercises. All teachers are, are our personal trainers for our brains. Everybody learns different, but school gives us all something to work on to keep our heads healthy and strong, and most importantly teaches us how to learn.
